Fred Seibert came by today
He discussed his 30+ year career in media, from a country music radio station to MTV to Next New Networks. I dig that he uses Tumblr, and apparently is a Tumblr investor too?
A few things that stuck out:
For any job, think about three things: having fun, making money, and liking the people. Pick two.
Also about jobs: it’s not the work, it’s who you’re working for.
On the media business: “What worked yesterday doesn’t work today, and what doesn’t work today works tomorrow.” (The sentiment is well known but I like the phrasing.)
He attributes a lot of his success to being a professional fan — finding people worth being fans of and supporting them 100%.
