Sure, but please don’t make it a default. Twitter should continue to add tools that let you search, sort, and find what you’re looking for in as many ways as possible.
Not surprising that the Twitter elite want their tweets to gain even more prominence, but frankly, I think that will only help the people that are already there and hurt the chances of others to achieve that status.
I think the Noisy Channel has a good critique of Le Meur’s proposal:
- Twitter is a communication platform, not a marketing platform, and there’s a subtle difference. Much as I wouldn’t want my email or phone prioritizing people based on their number of friends, I wouldn’t want Twitter to apply some global “authority” filter when I’m perfectly capable of deciding whom I want to listen to.
There’s just something in here that rubs me the wrong way. In some ways it seems like a parable of the issues facing our country right now: the increasing stratification of a democratic society that benefits those who are well off and kills the middle class.
