Subsequent monitoring showed that in the early morning, before the zoo opened, Santino would collect stones and stockpile them. Later in the day he would hurl them at visitors. (Chimps throw underhanded and have terrible aim, Dr. Osvath said, so no visitors have been seriously injured, and the zoo has taken precautions to protect them.)
